The Icelandic Nurses' Association has signed a collective agreement with the Icelandic state. The agreement was signed November 14th, 2024, and applies to all nurses working for the state.
The agreement was presented to nurses in five separate meetings, one in English. The agreement was approved by the majority of nurses in a poll conducted between November 20th and November 25th. A total of 81.95% of nurses working under the contract voted, the results were 85.63% said yes, 13.61% said no and 0.77% did not take a stance.
The duration of the collective agreement is retroactively in effect from April 1st 2024 to March 31st 2028. The agreement takes important steps in raising salary and other terms for nurses corresponding with other university educated workers. Working week for day-workers will be secured in 36 hours. The vocational training fund will be bolstered and donations raised during the agreements’ duration. Also, there will be laid groundwork for increased support for nursing specialists.
